How To Play Golf - Change Your Game And Get Fit!

1. Improve Your Flexibility

Are you tired after only a few holes? then you need to get some exercise!.  Golf is a very fit game, unless you are someone who gets out the cart at the first sign of a walk!  If not then you will have walked miles over the course of a game so you need to be fit and ready for it.  Take up some Aerobic fitness activity several times a week, which will build up your stamina.

How to Get A Smoother Golf Swing





Whenever I get a golf club in my hand, I start getting the feeling of just wanting to knock the cover off the ball.  It is a really good good feeling to put all of my strength into hitting the ball.  But Just hitting the ball as hard as I possibly can does not mean that I am playing good golf though.  


If all you want to do is relieve a little stress, then swinging with all the power you have may achieve your goals.  However, if you want to play golf well, then you really are going to have to hold back on the power a little.  


One of the most frequent mistakes is to swing the golf club too hard.  A hard swing shows that you have power, but accuracy is the name of the game in golf.  


You need to relax when you are swinging.  This will help you swing more easily, more fluently  and will help to reduce your power.  If you put your feet closer together, then you can further reduce the strength of your swing.  Tensing up will also cause you to use too much effort.  


Your center of gravity is also very important.  Keep your center of gravity the same and your head will stay still.  If you keep both of your feet in the same position throughout your swing, then your center of gravity will be stable.

It’s a beautiful day for golf.  Before heading out to the course, it is important to go through a checklist of items you will need to ensure an enjoyable round.  Before leaving your home, it is important to check the latest weather conditions so you can dress appropriately and bring any necessary items to deal with adverse conditions. 


On a day that conditions are forecasted to be clear and comfortable, it is appropriate to wear the right clothing.  Some players may choose to wear walking shorts if they are allowed by the golf club.  Some sort of hat is always recommended to protect the player’s head from the sun, and golfers should always wear sunscreen.  On a day when rain is anticipated, an umbrella and rain suit is desirable. 


A golfer’s bag should be equipped with certain necessities, besides the clubs and balls that may make the day more comfortable.  These items would include cotton towels to wipe away sweat and mud, a rain suit or an extra shirt, a spare pair of socks, and perhaps a snack and sport drinks.  Also, don’t forget your golf shoes.

How to Play Golf - How to Get a Good Golf Grip




Although it seems that gripping a golf club may be the most elemental part of the golf swing, it could also be the most important part of the swing.  Gripping the club too tight or too loose, gripping it the wrong way or in the wrong place, could throw off your entire swing.  Having an improper grip can greatly detract from the power and accuracy of the swing, and for the advanced golfer, it can hamper the way they try to shape a shot. 


There are primarily two types of grips that a golfer should use, and neither of them is a hand-over-hand baseball, or axe handle, grip.  The interlocking is where the golfer slides his left index finger between the ring and pinkie fingers of the right hand.  The overlapping grip occurs when the golfer lays his left index finger on top of his right pinkie or on top of the notch between his pinkie and ring fingers.  These grips allow the hands to hold the club steady while cocking and rolling the wrists throughout the swing.

Golf Tips – Two Fun Putting Drills





Practice makes perfect, they say, and the more you practice your putting, the better you should become at it. The other saying that rings true is, “Drive for show and putt for dough”. You may get the ego boost of being a long hitter, but at the end of the day, it’s those eighteen greens that you putt on that will have a bigger impact on your scorecard than those ten tee boxes that you were able to launch monster drives from.

The key to becoming a better putter is developing a consistent putting stroke that you can rely on every time you reach the green. Putting is one of the few shots in golf that should not change significantly based on distance and ball lie. The best part about practising your putting is that it can be done virtually anywhere, whether it be on the course, on a practice putting green, on a practice turf mat, or even on the carpet. Though the surfaces you practice on may be different, and may cause the ball to roll differently, there is no replacement for the muscle memory that your body will gain with each practice stroke.

Learn to Play Golf - The Elements of a Golf Swing






There are some basic elements of the golf swing that the golfer should use as a mental checklist when taking a shot.  The first element is the body’s alignment toward the target.  Stand five to ten feet behind the ball, with the ball directly between your body and the desired target.  Locate guidance targets on the ground (leaves, blades of grass, dirt, etc.) inches in front and behind the golf ball that should be on a direct line with where you are standing and the target.  Keep your eyes on those ground targets as you approach the ball. 


Align the clubface behind the ball, with the center of the clubface on a direct line between the two ground targets you have selected.  Grip the club with just enough tension to keep it from slipping in your hands throughout the course of the golf swing.  Align your feet on a parallel plain with your ground targets, shoulder width apart, and the knees slightly bent.  The front foot should be pointed slightly outward, toward the target, to allow your hips to flow freely through the swing.
